Infant found dead in Riverside County apartment; woman held

PERRIS, Calif. (AP) - The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department says an infant was found dead in a Perris apartment and a woman is in custody.

A department statement says a person flagged down a police officer, reported a foul odor emanating from a neighboring apartment and requested a welfare check.

Inside the apartment were a 28-year-old woman, a 2-year-old child and the deceased infant.

The woman was held for investigation of child endangerment. The 2-year-old was taken into protective custody.
