EAST PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (AP) - A 27-year-old man has been arrested in a hit-and-run crash that killed a blind man on Long Island.

Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/1pnYdFm ) Ruddy Velasquez-Morales pleaded not guilty on Thursday to leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death in the crash that killed 64-year-old Warren Karstendick.

Authorities say Karstendick was walking on the shoulder of an East Patchogue road near his home when he was hit by a sport utility vehicle just before 7 a.m. Sunday. Police say they found the blue Ford Explorer in a Manorville parking lot. Investigators say it’s registered to the suspect’s sister.

Police say Velasquez-Morales told police “it was me” after his arrest. But defense attorney Sanford Pirotin says there’s no indication that his client was driving.
