NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of a 25-year-old who fell to his death at a home construction site in western Pennsylvania earlier this month.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports (https://bit.ly/1MM42I5 ) Tariq Shabaz was working inside of a North Huntingdon home on April 8 when he fell 23 feet from the second floor onto an interior stairwell. He was taken to a hospital, where the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office says he died of injuries to his head, neck and extremities.

OSHA investigators say Shabaz worked for Pierce Contracting. They say they’re investigating whether safeguards were in place to prevent the fall and the probe is expected to last about six months.

A spokesman for the contracting company couldn’t be reached for comment.
