LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Police believe a man whose SUV collided with a Gwinnett County Public Schools bus earlier this week fell asleep at the wheel.

Gwinnett County police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (https://on-ajc.com/1VoCLy2 ) no children were on the bus during the Wednesday afternoon crash, which left the SUV driver hospitalized.

Pihera says the unidentified driver veered into the oncoming lane in Lawrenceville, striking the bus in a “near head-on position.”

The driver has been cited for failing to maintain a single lane. Police say DUI and speed are not believed to have been contributing factors to the crash.

It is unclear whether the driver was still hospitalized.
