ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a suspect has been shot after pointing a gun at an officer after leading police on a brief chase in Rochester.

It happened shortly before 6 p.m. Friday.

Police said officers had received a report that 38-year-old Michael Scot been involved in a domestic dispute and threatened to return with a gun. They say officers tried to stop Scott’s minivan near Dove Street, but he initially refused to pull over.

They say he stopped the minivan and pointed a handgun at the officers as he got out.

An officer fired at Scott, striking him. Police say he was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said they launched an internal investigation, which is standard protocol in all officer-involved shootings.

The name of the officer who shot Scott wasn’t immediately released.
