BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (AP) - A hospital official says Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has undergone heart surgery in a clinic in the capital, Bratislava, and has been in stable condition.

The 51-year-old Fico was hospitalized last week following a cardiac examination at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and remained there for further observation.

Mongi Msolly, the clinic’s director, told reporters the operation was done on Friday but did not elaborate. Officials declined to give any further details, at the request of Fico’s family.

Fico was sworn in as prime minister again after his leftist Smer-Social Democracy party won a parliamentary election in March.
