LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas liquor store clerk is being called a hero for not revealing that a pregnant manager was in the store when armed gunmen shot him multiple times, killing him, because he couldn’t open a safe.

Store manager Jamie Henderson told reporters Thursday that she’ll name her unborn son after Matthew Christensen. The 24-year-old died in Monday night’s shooting at Lee’s Discount Liquor in southwest Las Vegas.

Christensen’s mother, Theresa Christensen, said she was proud of her 24-year-old son.

“Matthew did what I would expect him to do,” she said. “My son protected her and her son.”

She also called for the assailants to turn themselves in to police, and for witnesses to come forward.

Police have said they’re looking for three armed men seen on videotape entering the store with guns drawn before the shooting. They’re believed to be in their 20s.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson has called Christensen’s death a senseless act of violence.

“This was an execution murder, a stupid, stupid murder,” he said.

Las Vegas police Lt. Dan McGrath said Christenson was complying with the robbers, with his hands up, when he was shot.
