Mendoza was being tried as an adult on charges of pulling up to 68-year-old Amrik Singh Bal on Dec. 26, beating him and running a Dodge sedan over the man.
Police said Mendoza and a passenger in the car targeted Singh because he was wearing a turban and traditional Sikh robes.

His passenger, 22-year-old Daniel Coronel Wilson, is facing a felony assault charge.
