WATAUGA, Texas (AP) - A Watauga man has been charged with capital murder in the death of his 2-year-old daughter.
Anthony Sanders is accused of suffocating his daughter, Ellie, while caring for her and his 5-year-old son at the family’s home Dec. 12.
Sgt. Jason Babcock said Friday that when Sanders’ wife returned home, the girl was purported to be sleeping on a bed.
Authorities say that the girl’s brother later tried to wake his sister, but was unsuccessful. Babcock says Sanders went to check on her and told his wife to call 911 because the girl wasn’t breathing.
She was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled on April 14 that the girl’s death was a homicide caused by asphyxiation. Sanders was arrested April 15.
It was not immediately clear if Sanders has an attorney.
