SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - About 35 civil engineers from the Vermont Air National Guard are due to return to the state after an exercise in Florida.

The members of the Civil Engineering Squadron of the 158th Fighter Wing are due home Saturday from Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, after a 10-day deployment exercise called Silver Flag.

Silver Flag is an annual exercise that ensures combat-mission proficiency.

The Vermont Guard men and women learned to build and maintain bare-base operations at a simulated forward-deployed location. As part of the exercise, members practiced a variety of combat and survival skills, such as repairing bomb-damaged runways, setting up base facilities and disposing of explosive ordnance.

Service members also received training on providing food service and lodging under simulated wartime conditions.
