GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - General Electric has opened its new $73 million research center in Greenville.
Local media outlets report that Gov. Nikki Haley joined top GE officials on Friday for the grand opening of the facility the company calls its Advanced Manufacturing Works.
The company broke ground on the new 125,000-square-foot research center two years ago and said it would mean about 80 new jobs for the area.
The new center should shorten the time between research and the development of new manufacturing processes and product prototypes
Most of the work will be related to the design of the turbines the company has made in Greenville for almost 50 years.
