HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - More Connecticut state employees are receiving layoff notices.

The Office of Policy and Management announced Tuesday that 28 workers received pink slips. Twenty of those workers were employed at the Department of Correction and eight were employed at the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

So far, a total of 546 executive branch employees and 126 judicial branch workers have received layoff notices. More job cuts are expected as state officials grapple with how to cover a projected $922 million deficit in next fiscal year’s roughly $20 billion budget.

The new fiscal year begins July 1.

The latest layoffs stem from the planned cuts previously announced by Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s administration.
