RIVERDALE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say three suicide attempts have been prevented by two New Jersey police officers.

Riverdale Sgt. Greg Bogert responded to the Route 287 area on Monday morning. Police say a man was standing by a stopped car and was crying and in distress.

Police say the man tried to jump over the bridge in an apparent suicide attempt. They say Bogert grabbed him and pulled him back before he could leap.

Authorities in southern New Jersey say Bellmawr patrolman Jared Walton spotted two people inside a running vehicle Monday morning. Police say the windows were up and a hose was attached to the exhaust pipe and was looped back into the vehicle.

Authorities say the people told police they wanted to end their lives.

All three people were hospitalized.
