WASHINGTON (AP) - Authorities are asking for the public’s help as they investigate the death of a 74-year-old man who suffered neck injuries during a struggle with security guards at a Washington hospital last year.

Police announced Tuesday that the Internal Affairs Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office are seeking assistance finding witnesses and additional information about James McBride’s death. The medical examiner’s office ruled McBride’s death a homicide, saying the cause of death was “blunt force injuries” of the neck, including damage to his spinal cord.

MedStar Washington Hospital Center officials say McBride was a patient at the hospital when he left Sept. 29 without being formally discharged. Officials say McBride was being escorted back to the hospital by two security guards when the altercation occurred. McBride died two days later.
