PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A Philadelphia Democrat who’s about to become the longest-serving member in the history of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives has lost his bid for re-election.

Rep. Mark Cohen lost to attorney Jared Solomon on Tuesday, but he’ll remain in office long enough to claim the longevity record in June. Cohen has been in office 42 years.

Cohen says he’s disappointed and hopes to continue to work in public service.

No Republicans made the ballot in the heavily Democratic district, so Solomon is highly likely to take the seat in January.
