SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police in the Savannah area have launched a death investigation after human remains were found on a farm in Chatham County.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Eunicia Baker said in a statement that the remains were found Monday evening near a dirt road. Officials say the property manager found the remains after trees had been cleared from the land.

Officials say the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will perform an autopsy to determine the person’s gender and manner of death.
