NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - Executive editor Sheila L. Mullowney has announced she’s leaving The Newport Daily News after 15 years at the helm.

The newspaper reported (https://bit.ly/1SBeIbn) Tuesday that Mullowney will leave at the end of the week.

The 46-year-old Mullowney started working for the paper as a copy editor in 1999. She’s been executive editor of the Edward A. Sherman Publishing Co. since 2006.



Mullowney will be a communications specialist for ICI Services Corp., in Middletown, where she’ll write and edit for Soundings, a monthly publication focused on the Naval Undersea Warfare Center and the Naval Surface Warfare Center.

Jonathan Zins, a copy editor at the paper since 1999, has been named managing editor. He’ll become part of the fourth generation of the Sherman family to hold a leadership position at the newspaper.
