MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A Madison man is charged in the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter earlier this month.
Twenty-five-year-old Joshua Gehde was charged Tuesday with first-degree reckless homicide. Cash bond was set at $300,000.
According to the complaint, police and medical personnel were called on April 12 to an apartment on Madison’s far east side where the girl had stopped breathing.
The girl had been left in Gehde’s care. He initially told police he thought the girl was choking, but when police told him she had suffered bruises and brain injuries consistent with being beaten, he denied she had sustained any injuries while in his care.
The Wisconsin State Journal (https://bit.ly/1VAGEju ) reports the girl died at UW Children’s Hospital on April 14.
Gehde is due back in court May 3.
