RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A prominent Rapid City businessman has been sentenced to a year in federal prison for failing to pay about $270,000 in taxes.

The Rapid City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/23Zt3au ) that Remodel King owner Scott Sogge acknowledged during his Monday sentencing that during the time he failed to pay taxes, he spent money on his home, a second vacation home, a time-share property and vehicles.

Sogge said in court that his business was suffering but that he couldn’t bring himself to cut workers.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of failure to withhold, properly account for and pay the taxes. He was ordered to make restitution.

Sogge is in his 60s. He’s a former president of the Rapid City Residential Contractor Board and a former member of the city’s Historic Preservation Commission.
