WHITTIER, Calif. (AP) - Police arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of drunken driving after an SUV he was driving lost control in Los Angeles County and rolled over, killing a 14-year-old high school student inside.

The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/24jPEeG ) Daniel Vasquez was taken to jail after being released from a hospital Tuesday. He could face a vehicular manslaughter charge in addition to felony DUI. It wasn’t immediately known if he has a lawyer.

Investigators say Vasquez was driving an SUV at high speeds in Whittier with five juvenile passengers. He allegedly lost control and the SUV veered onto a sidewalk and struck a mailbox before rolling over.

The newspaper says the 14-year-old, a student at La Serna High School, died at the scene.

Four other teen passengers were hospitalized in unknown condition.
