GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities in Orange County say a 15-year-old gang member on parole has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly walking up to a man in a car and shooting him in the head and back.

City News Service reports the shooting happened in broad daylight Tuesday as traffic was stopped in Garden Grove. Police Lt. Bob Bogue says the 42-year-old victim is expected to survive.

Bogue says before the shooting the suspect had argued with the victim, who was in the car with his girlfriend, who was driving.

Police arrested the 15-year-old suspect and recovered a small handgun.

Bogue says the woman behind the wheel tried to drive her boyfriend to a hospital, but dispatchers asked her to pull over so paramedics could catch up and administer aid. He was hospitalized in unknown condition.
