SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Officials say an inmate has died unexpectedly at the Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla.

The Oregon Department of Corrections reported Monday that 60-year-old Avis Woodrum had died while receiving medical treatment in the prison’s health services unit. Emergency medical personnel had responded and pronounced him dead.

The Oregon State Police is investigating the death.

The Salem man had been convicted of kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon and coercion in 2007.

Woodrum is the third prisoner to die at the Umatilla correctional facility this year.
