ERIE, Pa. (AP) - A man has been charged with criminal homicide in a beating death at a northwestern Pennsylvania motel on New Year’s Day.

The Erie Times-News (https://bit.ly/1rAfhtM ) reports that 35-year-old Carl Bell was originally charged with aggravated assault and other counts involving three people in two separate incidents at the Lin Lee Motel early on Jan. 1.

The homicide charge was filed Wednesday after the Feb. 12 death of one of the victims, 53-year-old Charles Lesser.

Investigators alleged that Bell punched, kicked and stomped Lesser and another man in one room at the motel. Authorities allege that he then returned to his mother’s room and kicked and stomped her before pouring boiling water on her.

Bell’s attorney didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment Wednesday.
