WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - A New York man who prosecutors say stabbed his mother to death in her Yonkers apartment has been indicted on murder and weapons charges.

Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty says Andre Coverdale pleaded not guilty Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Coverdale stabbed his mother to death on Jan. 16 and then walked up to a security guard booth near her apartment building and confessed.

They say the 27-year-old then led police officers back to his mother’s apartment, where they found her fatally stabbed in her bed. Prosecutors say a knife, which they believe was used in the slaying, was found on a window sill in the apartment.

Police have identified the woman as 50-year-old Dawne McCray.

Coverdale’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
