ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A 35-year-old western New York man has pleaded guilty to a string of robberies that ended when he was shot by police after stabbing an officer.

The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office ways Shaun Zimmer pleaded guilty Tuesday to robbery and assault for crimes committed during a five-day span in early July 2015.

Zimmer robbed several convenience stores and a bank in the Rochester area. When police from the suburban town of Gates tracked him down in the city on July 9, Zimmer stabbed one of the officers in the arm while trying to elude capture.

Police then shot Zimmer several times.

Zimmer will be sentenced to 26 years in state prison on May 24.
