SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Southeast Technical Institute President Jeff Holcomb is resigning after leading the Sioux Falls school for a dozen years.

Holcomb is 56 years old. He cites his age as his reason for stepping down and says he isn’t being forced out.

School Board President Kent Alberty said earlier this month that the school was dealing with a $2 million budget shortfall and that layoffs were possible.

Alberty and Holcomb say the budget has been balanced and that no layoffs or program closures are planned.

Alberty says a national search will be conducted for Holcomb’s successor, and internal candidates also will be considered.
