BELCAMP, Md. (AP) - Maryland State Police say a trooper has been charged with assaulting a driver after a vehicle chase on Interstate 95 in Harford County.

The agency said in a news release that 25-year-old Matin Dunlap was indicted Tuesday on charges of assault and misconduct in office. Dunlap surrendered Wednesday at the Bel Air Barracks and was released on bond.

Police say on Oct. 22, Dunlap chased and stopped a car that fled a traffic stop on the shoulder of I-95 near White Marsh.

State Police say as the driver, 55-year-old Dennis Donoghue of Riverdale, was lying on the ground as troopers tried to handcuff him. Investigators say Dunlap began jabbing Donoghue repeatedly in the side and abdomen with an expandable metal baton.

Dunlap is suspended without pay.
