LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a Lawrence woman shot by her boyfriend before he took his own life had taken out a restraining order against him the day before the shooting, but it wasn’t served immediately due to a computer glitch.

Yenny Santos told a judge Monday that her boyfriend, Antonio Gonzalez, had become violent and she feared for her life.

Gonzalez shot Santos on Tuesday, prompting a police standoff that ended with Gonzalez killing himself.

Chief James Fitzpatrick says due to computer problem the restraining order didn’t arrive in the department’s email inbox until Tuesday morning, two hours before the standoff started.

He says the officer who serves restraining orders had 24 others to serve that day. Restraining orders are usually served as soon as police receive them.

Santos remains hospitalized in critical condition.
