CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate at the Benton County Jail has died after reporting to deputies that he had been feeling ill.
The Gazette-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1SBok3X ) that 46-year-old Rory Christopher Holmes fell unconscious while walking alongside two deputies Tuesday. Undersheriff Greg Ridler says the deputies had been escorting Holmes outside to get fresh air after he told them he hadn’t been feeling well.
Ridler says the deputies unsuccessfully attempted life-saving measures on Holmes and called for medical assistance.
Emergency personnel responded and Holmes was pronounced dead.
Officials were expected to determine Thursday whether an autopsy would be performed.
Holmes had been booked into the jail on April 20 on charges of criminal trespass and failure to appear on a drunken driving charge.
