ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison following his conviction in Anderson County in the drive-by shooting death of an aspiring rap artist.

Prosecutor Chrissy Adams said 28-year-old Royres Patterson was found guilty Wednesday of murder, attempted murder and a weapons possession charge in 2014 shooting death of Anderson rapper Brandon “Jugg Money” Willingham at an intersection outside Anderson.

Patterson was convicted after a three-day trial.

Witnesses testified they rode with Patterson to the intersection thinking they would be buying drugs when Patterson opened fire on a group of people.

Prosecutors said the shootings were in retaliation for the death of the Patterson’s brother who had been killed the night before. Prosecutors said Patterson thought the two men resembled his brother’s killers.
