PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - A central Illinois school has received a big fundraising boost from former student and professional basketball player Shaun Livingston.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports (https://bit.ly/1SPw87G ) Livingston has donated $1 million to help renovate and expand Concordia Lutheran School in Peoria.

Livingston graduated from the school’s eighth-grade class in 2000. The Golden State Warriors player is still a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, one of the churches that founded the school.

Students, politicians and school officials kicked off the $3.1 million project at a groundbreaking Tuesday.

Kelly Schuetz is Concordia’s board chairman. She says Livingston “has been a big player in this - pun intended.” Schuetz says Livingston made the donation last fall, and the money “was really instrumental in making sure this took off.”
