NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - A New Castle man has been charged with killing a woman inside a house after he barricaded himself inside the home and had to be talked out by police.

New Castle police Cpl. Tom Jackson says 33-year-old Brian Goodwin has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of 22-year-old Lauren Steed.

Jackson says Goodwin shot Steed on Monday when he was alone with her in the house.

Police spent more than two hours Tuesday negotiating with Goodwin before they were able to get him out of the house unharmed.

Goodwin is also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. It wasn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney.
