MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The Shelby County Schools board has voted for three schools to go through the closure process and for three other schools to have their charter revoked.

Media outlets report that Tuesday evening, the board approved SCS Northside High School, Carver High School and Messick Adult High School for closure. Before the schools close, community input meetings and a final vote will need to be held.

The board revoked charters from three SCS charter schools: Omni Prep Academy Lower School, Omni Prep Academy Middle School and Southern Avenue Middle School. The schools will close, but they can appeal to the state to stay open.

The district currently faces having to close an $86 million gap for next year’s budget. The budget issues have affected the district’s decision to close schools.
