BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A 24-year-old western New York man has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for the murder of two men and the attempted murder of another.

Christopher Perkins of Cheektowaga was sentenced Wednesday in Erie County Court. He was found guilty in March of second-degree murder, attempted murder and weapons possession following a non-jury trial.

Authorities said Perkins fired several shots at a car on a Buffalo Street in August 2014, striking and killing 31-year-old Benjamin Gerald and 30-year-old Deverin White, who were passengers.

Perkins was caught by U.S. marshals after fleeing to Oklahoma.
