NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey woman who illegally managed a network of at least eight brothels across the state is heading to prison.

Thirty-four-year-old Elizabeth Rojas Rojas was sentenced on Wednesday to more than three years in federal prison. The New Brunswick woman pleaded guilty last May to conspiring with her husband and others to harbor unauthorized aliens for financial gain.

Authorities say Rojas and her husband managed the brothels in private houses and employed women in the country illegally as prostitutes. Authorities argued for more prison time because the brothel operation was linked to several murders.

Rojas apologized and says she didn’t realize how serious the crimes were until she was arrested in September 2014.

Her husband faces charges in the case and is also charged in two slayings in Bridgeton.
