FLINT, Mich. (AP) - The University of Michigan-Flint has announced that astronaut Story Musgrave will deliver the keynote address at the school’s May 1 commencement.

Musgrave is expected to speak at the 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. ceremonies at the Dort Federal Event Center.

Chancellor Susan E. Borrego says Musgrave’s “iron will, sense of exploration, and perpetual desire to learn are examples for us all.”

Musgrave was a NASA astronaut for more than 30 years and flew on six space missions. He performed the first shuttle spacewalk on Challenger’s first flight and was the lead spacewalker on the Hubble repair mission.

He retired in 1997 from NASA.

Musgrave holds a number of advanced degrees, and also is a medical doctor and chemist.
