MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - The Muncie Animal Shelter’s director says ten dogs that had been chained amid standing water and feces in southern Delaware County are “adjusting well” at the shelter.
Director Phil Peckinpaugh told The (Muncie) StarPress (https://tspne.ws/1SvSAwF ) that the beagles and cane corso mastiffs did not have access to food or fresh water.
Six beagles were found dead on the property.
Delaware County sheriff’s spokesman Joe Krupa says officials are attempting to locate the property owner.
Autopsies on the dead dogs were scheduled for Monday at Purdue University, Peckinpaugh said.
Peckinpaugh says authorities received a call Thursday about dogs in standing water and conducted a “typical animal welfare check” before removing the animals.
He says the property was littered with trash, restaurant and bar equipment, and alcohol containers, some full.
