BOSTON (AP) - The public is getting a chance to weigh in on an IndyCar race planned for the streets of Boston.
The City Council is holding a Tuesday hearing to give residents a chance to voice concerns over the Grand Prix of Boston.
Opponents say the race will have negative impacts to the environment and neighborhood safety.
The race is scheduled for September’s Labor Day weekend in the city’s Seaport District. Organizers are planning to construct a temporary street course around the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.
Democratic Mayor Martin Walsh and organizers signed an agreement last May calling for annual races for up to five years, starting in 2016.
Last week, the city’s Public Improvement Commission approved road improvements needed for four city streets. Organizers are negotiating agreements with state agencies.
