COTTON, Minn. (AP) - An International Falls man is under arrest after authorities say he hit a homeowner with a shovel and then drove the wrong way on a highway in northeastern Minnesota.

St. Louis County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in Cotton around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Authorities say the 37-year-old suspect entered the home and hit the homeowner with a garden shovel.

The suspect ran when he was confronted by other people in the house. Deputies in pursuit encountered a vehicle driving south in the northbound lane of Highway 53.

Officers used a maneuver to cause the suspect to spin off the road and arrested the driver. He was identified as the suspect in the assault.

The homeowner denied medical help. WDIO-TV (https://bit.ly/1N4e2aj ) reports the suspect is in jail, awaiting charges.
