DANIELSON, Conn. (AP) - An eastern Connecticut man charged with fleeing a fatal accident is facing arraignment on charges of manslaughter and evading responsibility.

Twenty-seven-year-old Chad Whitehead, of Danielson, is scheduled to appear Monday in Danielson Superior Court.

Police say Whitehead crashed a car in Plainfield in August and left before first responders arrived. The wreck killed 29-year-old Michael Shong, of Dudley, Massachusetts.

Plainfield police say it initially appeared Shong was the only person in the car when it crashed, but a lengthy investigation concluded Whitehead was the driver. Authorities say DNA evidence in the car and surveillance video from locations Whitehead and Shong visited helped police determine Whitehead was driving.

Whitehead is detained on $100,000 bail. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer who could respond to the allegations.
