WOLFEBORO, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire Marine Patrol reports rescuing a 17-year-old kayaker who capsized due to high winds while paddling on Lake Winnipesaukee.

Officials say the kayaker was pulled from the frigid waters of Jockey Cove off Wolfeboro before noon on Sunday.

Authorities say she was conscious but said she couldn’t feel her extremities. She was taken to Huggins Hospital for treatment of possible hypothermia. Marine Patrol says water temperature at the time was 45 degrees.

Officials say neither the girl who was rescued, nor her companion in a separate kayak, had lifejackets with them.

State law mandates that all vessels are required to have a personal flotation device for each person on board.

The incident remains under investigation.
