SOMERSWORTH, N.H. (AP) - Police in southeastern New Hampshire are searching for a coyote that attacked and injured three dogs just outside Dover over the weekend.

WMUR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1Sw64sa ) the coyote first struck around 4 a.m. Sunday after Jessica Cormier let her two dogs out the back deck of her Blackwater Road home in Somersworth.

Cormier’s yellow Labrador Retriever, Tessa, was mauled by the coyote and suffered severe injuries to her leg and ear. She is expected to recover.

State Fish and Game officials say the animal then attacked two mastiffs a few miles away later in the afternoon. They said they believe the coyote could be rabid.

Lt. Michael Eastman says people should go about their regular days but advises pet owners to “keep an extra eye” on animals outside.
