PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Portland voters will go to the polls in the coming week to decide whether to authorize $29.7 million to build a new elementary school.

The vote on Tuesday could provide money to build a new Hall Elementary School.

City officials say the 60-year-old school is in need of numerous improvements including security upgrades, a bigger gymnasium and improved energy efficiency.

The city says the state would reimburse all but $1.4 million of the money.

Officials say the new school - if approved - could open in the fall of 2018.
