ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - Authorities have called off the search for a father last seen Monday when he left his family in their stranded van to find help.

The recovery effort ended Sunday after almost 20 officers turned up no signs of 34-year-old Daniel Brown on Saturday.

Iron County Sheriff’s Lt. Del Schlosser says there is no evidence that Brown was picked up after he left his family to find help, but deputies are investigating the possibility.

Brown is recently unemployed. He was living in the van with his wife and four kids, who were found healthy and have since received shelter in Cedar City.

The search became a recovery operation Thursday.

A sheriff’s office statement says the family hopes Brown is still alive.

Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.
