FRANKFORT, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 98-year-old central New York woman has died in a collision on a snow-covered road.

Troopers say an 18-year-old woman from Palatine Bridge was driving a 2004 Jeep on a road in the Herkimer County town of Frankfort at around 1 p.m. Sunday when she lost control on the snowy roadway and crossed into oncoming traffic.

Her vehicle was hit head-on by a 2015 Jeep driven by a 65-year-old woman from Frankfort. Troopers say a passenger in the second Jeep, Josephine Lorek of Frankfort, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both drivers were taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in nearby Utica for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
