TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey’s Democrat-led Legislature is again considering a measure to ban people convicted of carjacking, racketeering and other crimes from owning guns.

An Assembly committee is scheduled to review the legislation on Monday.

Republican Gov. Chris Christie pocket vetoed an identical bill that passed without any opposition in the Legislature earlier this year.

The measure would make it a second-degree crime, punishable by a mandatory minimum sentence of five years for anyone convicted of carjacking, racketeering, making terroristic threats or engaging in criminal gang activity.

The legislation would expand the state’s gun ban on other criminals, including those convicted of arson, burglary, homicide and sexual assault.
