JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A child has been killed after his family’s SUV collided with a firetruck in Rankin County.
Multiple media outlets report that the crash happened Sunday night.
Cpl. Eric Henry with the Mississippi Highway Patrol said a family of five, including two adults and three children, was traveling on Highway 43 in a Ford Escape, and two firefighters in a Lake Harbour Volunteer Fire Department firetruck were coming from an intersecting road when the collision occurred.
Henry says 10-year-old Higuillermo Perez Montero died on impact. Montero’s parents and two younger siblings were all transported to the hospital.
He says none of the firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Henry says the crash is still under investigation. It is unknown if the firetruck was headed to a call.
