COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) - The California Highway Patrol says a DUI suspect was arrested after speeding the wrong way down a freeway during a chase that ended with a head-on crash in Orange County.
The CHP says the pursuit began early Sunday when officers tried stop a black Mercedes that was heading northbound in southbound lanes of State Route 55 in Costa Mesa.
The chase lasted for more than ten miles at speeds topping 90 mph. Eventually the Mercedes crashed into a black BMW.
The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/1MNCeTs) the drivers of both cars were hospitalized with survivable injuries.
The Mercedes driver, 20-year-old Joseph Almand of Orange, was later arrested on suspicion of DUI and held on $100,000 bail.
It wasn’t immediately known if Almand has an attorney.
