FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A Fresno County commission has disbanded after meeting for the first time in more than 20 years.
The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1N4U52R ) that the Fresno-Clovis Metropolitan Solid Waste Commission dissolved on March 23 after a brief meeting to first appoint new members.
County officials say there is no evidence that the last scheduled meeting actually convened in June 1994, and sparse notes exist from a meeting that took place in 1987. It was created in 1977.
Fresno County has been trying to reduce county supervisors’ workloads by cutting back on the number of boards, committees and commissions. The solid waste committee was replaced with the Integrated Waste Management Task Force, but the initial group was not abolished, instead members were not appointed.
At the march meeting, new members were appointed so they could vote to disband the commission.
