PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) - A horse is recovering after being air-lifted out of a ravine in Southern California.

The Press Enterprise reports (https://bit.ly/1TvLAEM ) that the horse slipped and fell off a trail in a remote area near Palm Springs on Saturday.

Riverside County Animal Services officials say another horse also fell but died after suffering a traumatic brain injury.

An Animal Services news release says Riverside’s Horse Animal Rescue Team is a group of firefighters and police. They reached the horses Sunday because there wasn’t enough daylight to help them the night before.

The horses’ owners stayed with them overnight.

River County Sheriff’s helicopter pilots helped find the horses and hoisted the living horse out of the ravine.
